I went to Portugal, let us say – by accident. It was not on my list of prime place to go to. The destination was in fact Spain as we wanted to see the possibility of buying a place there. While looking at the map we saw the Algarve coast and decided that we would just pass by for a couple of days and drive down to Spain from there.
We usually fly to wherever we need to in Europe from London Since London is our main base as we have our place there. We booked a flight from Gatwick to Faro. The flight was Packed & stuffy and thankfully not too long. Not expecting much, landed in Faro – a decent but small airport. The car from the hotel was waiting.
Once we entered the enclave it was another story altogether. The gorgeous golf course, the absolutely enchanting Cliffs and the Ocean in front of you – there was nothing that one could fault with the place. We stayed there for 2 nights and looked around and decided before even going to Spain, that this was the place we would use as a second home.
I have been to Algarve many times after that trip in 2016. I am totally in love with Portugal, its people and the simplicity of life there. Apart from Lisbon which like any metro is to be avoided if you are looking for relaxation, every bit of Portugal is simply gorgeous. You can swim in the sea and sunbathe on the beach or you can explore the many quaint villages as you drive winding across mountains and fields.
